"Awakening of the Dragon" is a cultural activity that was held in the Dai Gum San Chinese Precinct on Easter Saturday here in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.
This annual event is a traditional celebration of lion and dragon dance, presented by the Bendigo Chinese Association and visiting lion and dragon teams from all over Australia and overseas. After much dancing, banging of drums and clashing of cymbals the ceremony concludes with the lighting of 100,000 firecrackers to waken the Dragon Dai Gum Loong from his his year long slumber so he can put in an appearance in the Gala Parade on Easter Sunday
