Some art is 'digested.'
It gives you all you need to know without any need for analysis or thought.
For example, most portraits. They portray the subject, you see the subject - and there is no need for any understanding beyond that.
Some art is an attempt to use the medium to make an intellectual or emotional point.
If you read 'Animal Farm' I'm pretty certain you realized that it really wasn't about pigs and cows and dogs; it was an extended allegory about a political situation. In the case of Animal Farm it was about Russia as Stalin came to power.
Some pictures are like that; they attempt a metaphor that represents a situation, hoping to bring a little more to the viewer than a bald statement.

All socio-economic and ethinicity aside, I see 11 people here with absolutely no apparent interaction, even amongst the three sharing the table. That makes it interesting for me.
