I think this treatment makes Daine "grounded". He's gone from being a pretty boy to a powerful god of the earthly kingdom. The lighting emphasizes his masculinity and strength. The inability of us to see his eyes makes him a mysterious being, and yet his posture screams "presence", which is echoed by the roots enveloping the entire visual space.
