Beginner looking for help, upgrading from point and shoot

Hello, I am requesting input on which camera to get. Would like to spend no more than 800. I really dont know much about cameras but my wife and i are looking to get into photography. Main uses will be our 3 kids and sports. My ultimate goal would be surfing, snowboarding and wakeboarding action shots and i know that they require expenive lenses. Please help us choose the right camera for our new hobby!Joe in Cali

Both Canon and Nikon make some pretty decent entry level cameras that come with a twin lens kit, usually a lens about 17-55 mm and a longer telephoto. Go to your local camera shop and try some of these out.
