This is a female Pamphobeteus spp. tarantula (females are brown, males purple black) about 16 cm (6 inches) long. She was striding across my lawn after I cut the grass today. Must have been disturbed by the noise or vibration. Anyway I escorted her to dense foliage at the edge of the lawn. Out in the open she would be easy prey for an Andean Motmot or Tarantula hawk wasp.
