Actually he had a badly damaged eye as well (the right one). I think that's why he turned and stared at me - he had to to see me. He had his mate with him so at least some things were working.

Nice capture. It is not unusual to see a male with some damage to his horns. If you ever seen them fight for dominance, you will understand why this happens. As long as he is able to outrun predators he will survive. Whether or not he will be able to gather a harem each fall is another story.
