Did a fairly quick shoot today just to start getting some ideas on how to shoot a model on a bike and I am happy with this picture:




But I do not like the crop of this one:



I think it needs to be cropped in some. Also kinda peeved I cut out the front tire.

Once the bike is inspected and tagged Ill be able to drive it to some better locations.

Any words of advice?

I like the first shot, but not so much the second. The pose just throws me off, not quite sexy, but more uncomfortable looking.

The first one though is a killer shot. What were you using for lighting? The bike and subject appear well lit in relation to the brightness of the background. I actually like the background, too, I wouldn't worry overly about better locations especially if you have the lighting and knowledge to control the background.

In #1, she's totally comfortable and looks like she owns the bike and enjoys riding it. She has a nice cocky attitude which I find very appealing and adds lots of emotion and story to the image. Good, uninteresting, background and shadows - no distractions. Debris on the pavement could be cloned out. Overall this photo is really well done, imo.

In #2, she appears to be merely posing uncomfortably on a prop she doesn't own. Even as a sexy girl and bike photo, it isn't working for me.

Keep a careful eye on that gas tank dent in future shots. With glare, it easily dominates as in #2.

I used natural light in both photos. The house faces west so you get some great evening light coming in and there is a large tree off to the left that casts the shadows on the house and garage behind where we were.

Ill try cloning out the the junk on the driveway this evening after work. I swept it all off but apparently missed a spot haha.

Ill also see what I can do about the tank glare. I was a bit concerned about it but didnt think it distracted too much.

Did a little work on the second photo finally. I think its better than before. I cropped in on the subject some and also toned down the glare on the dent in the tank.

I would wait till the sun goes down just a bit more and put her on the other side of the bike so she is backlit, using a reflector to illuminate her.

In your first one I find the skin at her hip distracting, and the back of the bike is a bit lost/poorly lit.

Just my thoughts, take it for what you will.

Thank you for the input. Ill give the reflector a try in the future and see where I can get with that.

Would you suggest using the white fabric of the reflector or the silver lining? (I have one of those 3 in 1 reflectors)
