Some from the last few days. Been kind of stormy lately so lighting has not been good, but I'm kind of having fun learning to cope with it.

You have been busy! And all nice shots. If I had to be picky, I would say a couple were underexposed a bit. Here is a couple examples. Not saying my edits are better -- just offered for consideration. Lee

Thanks all!

And Lee, I need to work on PP skills all around. I have attempted to lighten a few like your edits, but whenever I do I get terrible noise from it, and for me noise reduction (and sharpening for that matter) never seem to do anything for me in Photoshop. The stealth mose duck one looked all right for me, but if you brighten the duck the eye in turn needs to be darkened and I just didn't want to put that much work into it lol. That eye caught the light in a really weird way in proportion to the rest of the head.

Beautiful shots Nevadastig. Love the stealth mode & the Swan.
I think Lee did a great edit for #1. The stealth mode is also a fine edit except the eyes, they are just too bright for me.

Excellent variety and I just can't imagine a Quail sitting on a fence ... I want one :) All fine shots, love the Stilts and the finch, beautiful yellow in that one.

All the best Jason, nice work and shots on flickr BTW. Very enjoyable to see.

Danny.

PP is a pain in the neck! And I certainly don't claim to be much good at it. All I did was boost the shadows in those shots. I have never seen a noticeable increase in noise doing this (using PSE 11.) Perhaps someone who knows more about it than me will comment, but a lot of noise does seem strange. I like the bright eye, but if one doesn't, it only takes a few seconds to tone it down with the "burn" tool. As far as sharpening, I hope you are using "Unsharpen Mask" rather than "Sharpen?" It is the better choice. Perhaps you know all this; if so, sorry for the waste of time.

Always enjoy seeing your stuff; you have been getting some very nice shots lately! Lee

In my experience the most noise comes from trying to recover details from the shadow (i.e going from 0 to +ve in shadow). I always try to work with the exposure before changing the shadow value. After that the main culprits are the Sharpness & then the Clarity sliders. In short sharpness, shadow & clarity are directly proportional to the noise (& details).

I had to learn these as my camera is probably the worst in noise department. Anything above 200 ISO and I get noise.

I will tell you this: photoshop is a pain to learn. Well, it can be a pain or easy. The thing I have trouble with, is whenever I am trying to learn something, I like to check out youtube, as I am a visual learner. If you look up one simple task about editing something on photoshop, you come up with 6,237 different videos. And those 6,237 videos show exactly 6,237 different ways of doing the exact same thing.
