Boy, I've never known there were so many different kinds of herons out there!
Where was this one sitting? Looks like some kind of weir.
Red eyes! ;) No softward fighting this? ;) ;) ;) :greenpbl:

By the way, can this one stretch its neck and get a loooong neck, like I would expect herons to have?

Yes, there are actually several types of herons here. This guy was sitting at the base of a dam (and there were white herons and a great blue there as well).

I've never seen an adult with the neck stretched out, but I've seen juveniles poking around for food with a longish neck. It's not as long as the great blue heron or white heron's neck in relation to body size, though.

I really like this image. It is almost a mono-tone so few distractions and the bird pops very nicely. Very nice.

LaFoto, I believe those birds have red eyes.

Thanks cloudwalker. Yep those eyes are the real-deal.

The bird is nice.

The bright highlights in the background take away from the bird.

Thanks for commenting. What do you think of this crop?

Crop looks fine if not better. One of my favorite birds!

I had hoped my ample use of "winkies" (these smilies here: ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ) would show that my assumption this was a technical flaw wasn't a SERIOUS one! ;)
