Nice shot. I like it as it show the bird in its surroundings. My only comment would be that it looks a little "washed out" or more like a pastel rendition. I don't know if that is what you were going for, or not. IMHO, at a minimum it might need a little contrast boost and maybe some vibrance. The birds feathers seem to have a slight greenish cast to them rather than the darker blue that I would expect.

Thanks for the comments, and I completely agree with your comments on the coloring, however it was what I was going for. I sometimes enjoy a bit of a pastel look with some of my photos. I don't do it all the time, just every once in awhile to sort of change the mood of the scene. If I get a chance I'll try to post the original as well!

Here is the original with a slight increase to exposure, contrast, and vibrance in LR. The camera is a Canon G15, so the quality isn' t the greatest to begin with, currently it's my travel pocket camera. I like both versions myself and agree that the original looks more natural, but for some reason to my eye the washed out version draws more attention to the Heron for me. What a beautiful looking bird and I like the sort of "sinister" look on their face.

Went to the San Diego Safari Park yesterday for our annual trip, and this fella flew right over my head and perched in the nearest tree. I also attached a shot of a type of pelican I believe (unsure of kind), whom also shares that sort of sinister look....I don't normally capture shots of wildlife very often, but it sure was fun!
