I wish I could find some Sandhills cranes! Keep after them..
I will give advice that I got on this forum ....
Had a nice photo of a bird and then it was pointed out that it was against bad background.
In your Heron shots there is something distracting with the 'log' in the 1st background and the 'moss/shadow' in the 2nd.
Otherwise, good captures..
