I think that this kind of picture lives or dies on the technical issues.
If the picture is of something that is meant to be vertical like a door, unless there is a definite artistic reason for it to be tilted, be scrupulous about making it vertical. Note the tilt in the original.

If the content of the picture is meant to show a dark/light contrast and texture, then make it definite and sharpened.
