Broke my speed light?

Today during a shoot, the wind blew over my light stand and both it and my speed light went tumbling to the ground. The batteries got knocked out of the speed light but there didn't appear to be any physical damage, at least on the outside. I put the batteries back in and it wouldn't turn on. I tried a fresh set of batteries - no dice.

Any idea what the issue might be? Possibly repairable?

I've had something similar happen to my flash in the past. CPS repaired it, but it wasn't cheap. (I think in the range of $300).

Did they tell you what it was? It's just a Yongnuo 560III, so it wouldn't be worth it to repair for that much. I've already ordered a replacement, but it would be nice if this is a simple fix and I'd be up to 3 lights!

It could be many things like a connector that was jarred loose, but most likely is a broken circuit board or a broken solder joint.

Do you use sand bags or stakes to keep it tethered to the ground? I've just been using my wife to hold it when its too windy lol. That's with a light sphere on it instead of an umbrella though.

Unfortunately, no. I didn't have an umbrella so I thought it would be sturdy enough in the wind, but then a super gust came.... and no one was prepared.

Maybe I'll crack it open and see if anything looks off, that I can possibly fix.

Does the battery door feel like it closes normally? My buddies yn468 got karate kicked by a model and the batteries drop further in now.

I know thats not much help but fortunately it wasn't an OEM expensive flash.

I have seen my 560-ii take some cringe worthy crashes. One of the Rubber strips on the side even disappeared

Yeah, battery door seems to be just fine :/
