Broken d40

My Nikon d40 was recently dropped on pavement, and the damages can be seen in the photographs. I took it to a camera shop, and they said that it could not be fixed without replacing all the insides. Somehow, I think this isn't true. There has to be some sort of "good enough" quick fix that does the job. It doesnt have to be a professional job, it just has to attach the metal ring so that I can attach lenses to the body. I know this is stupid, but I've even considered glue. The camera body itself still takes pictures, and is fully functional....so it would just be very sad if it were completely useless. Anyway, I'm wondering if there's any way I can attach the metal lens ring. Unfortunately, there was some damage done to the black plastic part, and that's why the camera shop was unable to fix it without removing everything. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?

Try minimal amounts of Blutack to re-attach the mounting plate and then also secure the plate/the lens to the body with electrician's tape. Probably be manual focus only from now on.

Okay thanks, I'll look for that. Do you think gorilla glue has a chance as well?

I'd avoid using glue. If the lens is a G (?) ..this won't work. Does it have an manual aperture ring?

Well, I have three lenses, the 18-55mm kit lens, a 2x teleconverter, and a 70-210mm manual. Attaching the lens does seem like a safer idea. Maybe I'll bluetack the teleconverter to the body, so that I can still choose between my two lenses. I'll go buy some bluetack and play around with it, and see what I can do. Thanks.
