Not sure if this is a butterfly or a moth?

I took the exact same picture two days ago. Same butterfly, same flower.

That's pretty cool.. I guess that butterfly/moth likes that type of flower. ;)

Most probably a butterfly as it is sitting with its wings closed.
Moths usually have them opened when sitting and butterflies usually have them closed.
I's also not extremely hairy which is usually also a sign of moths. xD

I'm no bug expert but I noticed butterflies stand/sit with their wings "pointing up" like that while moths put "to the sides" more or less. Of course I could be wrong and there are butterflies or moths which don't do it that way.

Differences Between Butterfly and Moths

Moths thin or often feathery

Body

Moths thick and fuzzy

Moths held flat against body when resting

Looks like a Red Admiral butterfly in the first photo and a Painted Lady butterfly in the second photo.

Typically butterflies have clubbed antennae and moths have feathery antennae like CA said.

Take care,
