The dark diagonal lines, apparently created by wiping the table with a wet rag, add a sense of movement that is counter to the less organised scratches that are also on a different angle.
The lighter part of the image also runs counter to the direction of the dark diagonals and close to the angle of the scratches.
Those elements, plus the light and dark splotches, create the tension and drama that keeps a viewer engaged with the image as they subconciously explore the nuances of implied movement on display.
