#1 would be awesome if you had framed the shadow on the sidewalk, no gravel.

the other shots are too much...not a clear subject.

The light in AZ can get very harsh. Not many trees and stuff to diffuse it. In addition to picking better subjects, angles, and composition, try to shoot earlier or later in the day. Or carry a small collapsible diffuser to hold over your flower shots to soften the light a bit. Try not to shoot into the sun.
