Something is missing from the shot for sure. I suppose if they want that pose specifically..a different angle might be more ascetically pleasing...or maybe get them to stand at different angles or something. The shot is slightly at an angle. I would try to get them directly from the side....I would like to see only the side of his leg...not both. I like the second shot more..but could use a little more contrast. I like a lot of things about the picture as well.

Shots like this are good for collages. You add it to reinforce other photos. Sometimes it does not work if it is just by it self.

Don't agree with the rest. I think the idea is really nice, it just wasn't properly executed.
Try to improve both composition and exposure, I think could turn out to be a good photo IMO.

I like the idea as well, but that leg up in the air is too much of a cliche for me...perhaps I'd like it more if it was a shorter girl standing on her tiptoes (That's my creative vision, by no means you have to feel the same way)

like the softness of the second photo.

Where I think this kinda thing would work....a beach. sandy beach..clean, nearing sunset...long shadows of them only on the sand...put them near the water line. Would probly work. as is...not so much.

I like the second rendition that you posted although the subjects seem a little dark to me.

I leave cutting off body parts to Doctors and serial killers... but that's just my opinion. If it was specifically requested, I would do it, but I wouldn't put it in my portfolio.

The only profession/hobby that is okay with me shooting babies and children... but I cannot perform surgery?? lol thanks... not going in the portfolio

This is just my opinion, but I think a shot like this could work If you shot closer to the stream and showed their full reflection in the water. As is, it does nothing for me.
