1. Taken in a large sewer in Melbourne that I was riding my bike through. To be honest I never really liked this photo much but couldn't exactly say why, but other people seem to like it. It's not HDR but I did a few adjustments on it in lightroom (fill light and recovery mostly).

2. An old steam train in Ferntree Gullly called Puffin' Billy

Just FYI I'm being lazy and these are hosted on facebook so they don't look their best in terms of sharpness.

... and I thought I sometimes looked for photos in unusual places!

I like the multicolored bike with the rainbow above it, but there is little detail in the sewer, which may be a good thing in some respects, but I don't think it helps the photo. It would work better if cropped on the right to eliminate the dark foliage and decenter the image, and if you could bring out a little more detail to the left of the bike.

The second is an OK train enthusiast shot, but seems to lack a little "snap" which could be just the sharpness issue you mention, or could also be from the steam haze.

1) I think the shot is a cool shot.
-Get rid of the power lines
-rotate to get a more horizonal shot
-prime example of ROT, position of the bike is awful.
-Try a sponge brush over the rainbow and saturate it a little more
I really like the feel of it though, if that bike was in the lower left corner...that shot would be much more pleasing.

2. This one just seems busy, I do like the lines leading me through the shot.
-roofs edge and 1/2 person could be cloned out
-doesnt do much for me other than that though

I agree with cropping right side of frame one. I find it visually interesting on a whole. The second one not so much but thats me.

I actually like the second one better than the first. In the first one the bike seems distracting.
