Don Sandalio is a coffee broker. In this "bodega" he recieves two kinds of beans. One is for Colombian consumption which he can sell for $30.000 a big sack. The other which is export quality and pictured he can sell for $76.000. Each bag contains about three "arrobas". One arroba is equivalent to 25 pounds. He carries a stainless steel conical rod with which he can pierce a sack so that a small sample of the beans can be withdrawn for examination. Dog didn't bite.

A picture like the second, but you are facing Don Sandalio with the other man side-on, and the dog behind him and to your left. But perhaps the dog wouldn't have allowed it :) (Hindsight being what it is). Nonetheless, good pictures!

$76k for one sack of 75 pounds it's $2300 for 1 kg. Are you sure it's coffee? I guess if I sold something that cost so much I wouldn't spill it on the floor.

WHAT?! $25US for 75 pounds?

Where can I sign up?

I'll buy a few sacks. That should last a week or so.. ;):D

That's AS IS, IN Columbia, at the wholesale price, not imported yet, not blended, not roasted, and not delivered to your house.

Can I be a hipster and try to do that myself?

Then sell a half pound for $20 a bag?

If you're thinking of selling it, then you'll have to add in the taxes as well. Import tax, Federal Income tax, FICA, State and local income tax if applicable, sales tax, health inspections tax, and probably some others that have escaped me at the moment.

Still think it'd be worth it if you had a legitimate business and bought enough to outweigh any overhead costs, production costs, and taxes...

At that cost, it's $0.33 per pound raw. Turn around and sell it at say $35 pound/$18 half-pound.

Or, do what one company is doing and sell a 5 pound bag of unroasted/raw coffee beans on Amazon for $30.

Don't worry. I'm not in the coffee business... yet. ;):D
