Canon 2x II extender coupled with 70-200 f/2.8L IS

Has anybody tried this combination? If I remember right, this setup actually works ok compared to a 2x of other brands, on other lenses, etc.

I haven't tried it, but I have seen pics from that combo, and they look quite good. Not super sharp, but very acceptable.

I hear people prefer the Canon 1.4 to the 2x. You only loose one stop with the 1.4. You should also check to see if the 2x and 70-200 2.8 will AF with it. Plus you'll have better IQ with the 1.4.

I've seen it done and it's still pretty good.

I've also seen this lens on on that TC...and then the 1.4 TC behind that! I would have thought that the IQ would have been terrible...but it wasn't. It wasn't fantastic but it was still usable.

Thanks Gimp & Big Mike. That's exactly what I was looking for...something from some type of experience using it or seeing photos from the combo.

I am well aware about the technical differences between 1.4 and 2x, and stops of light, AF, etc. I simply wondered if images were acceptable.
