Hey Everyone,
I am trying to decide between these two lenses.
Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM ~$450
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM ~$700
I have a Canon Rebel XTi at the moment, which I mainly use for outdoor landscape photography. In the future, I plan on getting a 5D Mark II (although that's a couple of years down the road).
Is the 17-85 comparable to the 17-40 in image quality? I've seen some comparison images, and it seems to be somewhat close, but is the extra money to get the 17-40 worth the jump in image quality? I'm not so concerned about the extra 45mm in zoom that the 17-85 gives.
I've looked into the issue of whether the 17-85 would work on the 5D Mark II, and I have found both yes and no as answers. Which one is true?
I am a student, so I don't have too much money, and while I would rather go with the 17-85 just for the cost issue...the 17-40 is also an excellent landscape photography lens.
Thoughts?
