Canon flash Accessories

O I'm looking for a wireless transmitter so that I can use my 580 ex II flashas a slave I currently have a rebel xsi 450D any recommendations on which transmitter to buy or what's a cheaper?

Well, I'd go for the canon ST-E2 first. Then Pocket Wizards, but the canon is going to be cheaper than a trigger and receiver for the PW's.

I forgot... Yongnuo makes a knock off of the ST-E2. I have no clue how good it is, but you might peruse www.strobist.com to see if Hobby has anything to say about it. He loves the yongnuo stuff.

You could start with something really cheap.
Something like THIS or THIS.
You could go with something 'better', but more expensive. THIS plus THIS.
The industry standard is the Pocket Wizard Plus II (two required).

Any of the options above will give you manual flash control only.

If you want/need auto flash metering (E-TTL), (like when the flash is on the camera) then you could use the Canon system (requires a Master unit and a slave unit).
Or you could get the Pocket Wizard TL units. Radio Slaves

The Yongnuo works as good as the ST-E2 only costs half as much to buy
