Yes, unfortunately you are incorrect. The mount is a different size so there is no way to use FD lenses on EOS cameras (without the adapters mentioned above). That's probably why they have a stockpile of these lenses.
Nikon has some cross-compatibility with their older lenses & cameras but Canon pretty much burned the bridge to FD lenses when they introduced the EOS cameras in the late 80s.
The lenses in question are still said to be pretty good glass. It's wouldn't be to much to pick up a used manual focus camera to use the lenses. I have been keeping my eye on E-bay for an older Canon Camera for this reason...the lenses are now dirt cheap. Check out prices for an AE-1.
