Cap, Filter, Hood?

I'm new to this forum so not exactly sure this is the best place to ask this question...I just bought my first 2 expensive lenses and am thinking more about protection. What do you typically wear on the end of the lens that's attached to your camera?

1- Cap
2- Filter
3- Hood
4- Filter + Hood
5- Something else

Personally I keep a hood on all of my lenses.

Wow...it may not get a scratch but I bet you wouldn't do that to a functioning L lens!

UV filters were invented by clever salesmen.

Personally, I feel that filters and hoods are a little wimpy. I use two trained dobermans (nicknames "Chuck" and "Norris"). Don't have even as much as a scratch on any lens. But that does reduce my options on the slow side of the shutter range.
