I recently visited the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita, Kansas. Here are a dozen images (all using the Nikon Z9) from that trip:
- The Cathedral is undergoing a massive renovation. Fortunately, the interior was mostly intact--expect for a couple of stained glass windows that were sent out for repair.
- Full view of the sanctuary and nave
- View toward the rear of the Cathedral
- Interior dome photographed from directly below-- the composition centers on a fresco depicting God surrounded by clouds and a radiant blue sky.
- Memorial chapel of Reverend Emil Joseph Kapaun (1916–1951), U.S. Army chaplain and Medal of Honor recipient. The marble tomb rests between granite columns. A portrait of Father Kapaun stands beside the tomb, honoring his courage and faith during the Korean War, where he ministered to soldiers in captivity and died in service. His remains were returned to Kansas in 2021.
- Decorative marble panel on the front of the pulpit
- Sanctuary of the Cathedral
- The tabernacle crowned by a domed canopy and cross, flanked by Corinthian columns of polished white marble.
- The symmetrical interior leading toward the marble high altar
- Pipe organ
- Mural
- Interior
Thanks again for looking...
