Title: Caught in the Act
Location & Date: Fish Creek, Alaska | August 2013
Camera Set-Up: Nikon D800 w/ Nikon 300mm 2.8
Shutter Speed: 1/800
Aperture: 6.3
ISO: 800
Note:
Wolves inhabiting the coastline of BC and Alaska are part of a distinct subspecies of grey wolves and one of their most interesting characteristics is their ability to fish. And they aren’t casual fishers – the coastal wolf is an expert fisher, with salmon making up a large part of their diet. I had the opportunity to document this first hand at the Fish Creek wildlife viewing platform on the Alaska/BC border. The main attraction might be bears, but it was coastal wolves that stole the show – and, frankly, put bears and their fishing skills to shame.
