thanks for your comment, but i already bumped the contrast to high levels. i shot these when the sun was directly above so the increase in contrast didn't really do much.

Hmm. How are you converting to B&W ?

B&W film would have rendered those shots with better contrast.

i used the B/W feature in Lightroom. perhaps i should have just thrown saturation all the way down huh?

i would have shot these with film but i didn't want to go through the trouble of developing them

The first one really needs more contrast to make it more interesting. The picture itself is fine but it's a little flat right now. It would really help to try and adjust the curves.

The second one is fine. It doesn't need as much adjustment as the first one because the subject is more interesting to look at.
