Photos NOT OK to edit
Was doing some rolling car work the other day on a racetrack at speed and had a HUGE juicey bug go splat right in the middle of my filter.

i've tried wiping off with a damp cloth and then taking a lens pens to it, but there are still smears and stuff on the filter that dont seem to want to come off. almost like an oil residue or acidic maybe?

Any suggestions?

not sure if it's available around you, but Simple Green is the best I have found to remove bugs from windshields. It is very mild, but I can't guarantee it won't screw up any coatings on your filter.

Rinse your mouth out well with water, then hock up a good sized spit, and spit right on the bug splatter, and let it sit there for about 5 minutes. It too is mild, and will not mess up the coatings on a filter.

I use Nikon lens cleaner to dampen a lens tissue, ot 2, or 3 until the goo is gone.

Just hit it with any decent cleaner that isn't benzene or ammonia based.

Vinegar is a favorite, as is alcohol.

Coatings are far harder than people make them out to be.
