this would normally be intended for a color photo not bw. im curious to know your decision making on going bw and what you saw in it that led it that way.

One of my goals this year is to go out shooting with a plan. Or as close to a plan as I'm capable of.
I tend to enjoy the spontaneity of randomly discovering things, but it can have a downside.
I tend to get stuck in a comfort zone if I don't set a goal.

Today was trees, clouds, and water with an intention of B&W conversion or subdued colors and tones.

Yes, but you are assuming that something was there when it may not have been. There were no leaves on the trees and the grass was mostly still brown.
The ocean was a dull green because it was mostly cloudy.

The only thing colorful is your imagination.

I see why you went bw then. In my mind im still looking at these and seeing color, don't ruin that. lol.

The clouds look nice, but generally they are made for colour. When you shoot a black and white photo with a sky, things tend to blend together and you lose the range in tones.

I am not a big fan of the tree photo because you lose the trees in the mountain background. This picture has very little contrast, therefore all of the objects blend together.

I find black and white photography very hard to do because it is hard to get the contrast, compared to coloured photography.

Out of the other photos you have posted below, I like #3 and #5 the best.

They are all excellent. I particularly love the organic shapes of the tree (#4). Don't know if it is possible, but maybe shooting that tree from a lower angle to minimize the background trees would help separate the subject tree better. Really like your conversions as well - lots of tonal range.
