Wonderful shots of a magnificent bird.

The word "buzzard" doesn't do it justice.
hawk, or eagle or such is nicer...

lol

In western North America the "buzzard" is a much uglier, dark, monochrome bird. I take it you are in Europe or the UK.Here the turkey vulture is commonly called a buzzard.

Thanks Derrel, yeh in the UK. I have been pulled a few times on various forums telling me in no uncertain terms it`s a Hawk :allteeth: We have the Marsh tit for example, which is very similar to what you guy`s call a Chickadee. I guess there must be some sort of connection between the two, would be nice to know where they originated from.

buzzard had a different connotation in the past.

First and foremost though, the shots are absolutely gorgeous.

so I don't want to dwell on semantics.

Secondly, I know that most acrioss the world uses diff. terms for the same thing, so I don't want to distract from the beauty of the image.

Beautiful shots no matter where they originated or what you call them. :)

The marsh tit looks a lot like the black capped chickadee.

Two more which I quite like, this was when a few of them were on the lookout for earth worms. They play an important part of their diet in the colder months, when small rodents and rabbits are thin on the ground. Here you can see the nictitating membrane, which is a transparent or translucent third eyelid present in some animals that can be drawn across the eye from the medial canthus for protection and to moisten it while maintaining vision.

The buteo family has a wide, fan- shaped tail and deep wings, as I recall from " birds and mammals" class in high school science from 1979...
