I've been a long time Konica, Minolta and Konica-Minolta user. However the introduction of the D800 has converted me to a Nikon user. I recently purcahsed a D800 and due to working way too many hours, I have not even had a chance to use it. Anyway, I would like to purchase a vertical grip but after spending a small fortune on the camera, lens, flash and accessories, I can't justify the $400 price tag of the Nikon grip. I've noticed that there are several aftermarket grips that cost a quarter of the price of the Nikon. My question is, would using a non-Nikon grip void the warranty should something happen to the camera? A quick glance at the users manual doesn't seem to mention anything about third party accessories. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really can't afford to damage my new purchase.

I've had GREAT luck with cheap grips on both my D700 (and D7000 I sold). Even with tripod use and HEAVY lenses.

I'm looking at buying a D800 now and amazon has some grips - I will by one of those same time I pull the trigger on the D800 I order from BHPHOTO

I got the Pixel grip for the D800 from Amazon and I like it so far. Doesn't feel any different from the MB-D10 that was on my D300.

Thanks for the info. I bought the camera and lenses form B and H but they only seem to sell the Nikon grip. I noticed that Adorama has both Phottix and Flashpoint. Ebay has MeiKe, Pixel and XIT. Not really sure what the differences are and if there are any known issues with any of them. I would like to order form a reputable source like Adorama but I've never heard Flashpoint or Phottix.
