Thank you. Yes a single shot ISO 8000, 15 seconds @ f/2. I have some other shots and will try to do a stack and get rid of some noise. But I am happy with the color in this one.

Thank you! The original plan was to use a gazebo for a foreground. My lens wasn't wide enough. I'll post that one later but I like the treeline foreground better!

No this is up in the White Mountains in NH. That trip is at the end of September. Not sure if I'm going at this point. A lot will depend on what happens over the next month. It's not looking good. I may see if I can push it out to 2021.

I sure hope it works out. I've seen naked eye skies out west at altitude that are nearly as bright as time exposures out east. Once again you are inspiring me to get back to the Skyline Drive and shoot the sky.

You could drop your ISO to 4000 and increase your time to 24 sec and let photoshop/Topaz fix the rest to cut down some of that noise.

Thanks - I do have a few shots at lower ISOs that I need to edit still. I was playing around with different ISO and shutter speeds trying to find that sweet spot for the xt2. I was trying to get more color than previous shoots. I don’t think I exposed long enough on the lower ISO’s. Even with ISO invariance you can’t make up for too short on the exposure time. I won’t make that mistake again.

Thank you! I also live in a high light pollution area just a few miles north of Boston. I drove 2.5 hours each way to get into the mountains to get to dark skies. It was easier when we could carpool and stay overnight but lately we’re just doing solo up and back outings. It’s tiring!

Only if she’s shooting at 14mm or less (21mm with crop factor). Any focal length beyond that would need a shutter speed of less than 23.8 seconds to maintain pinpoint stars.

This is a rough guideline based upon the 500 rule and you can sometimes push it a little, but not very much in my experience.
