Has a nice feel to it and I like the way the water looks, but the bright areas on the left are too close to the edge and also the area above the trees looks artificial. Is that a processing artifact, or did the sun actually look like that coming through some mist? Even if it's the latter, the white area just above the trees still needs some work to bring out a little detail if possible.

this was an HDR of one of my early abandoned image and the three images were generated from the same. when the HDR was developed today, i saw a special brightness behind the palms. Then i remembered, at the time of shoot, the sun was rising. Of course i enhanced the glow. Being not an expert in photoshop, i thought of not taking the image to the point of destruction and stopped PP

An HDR? Why?

It is quite 'muddy' looking and the drop shadow is incongruent with the location of the sun in the image, kind of like dragging finger nails across a blackboard.

well, hdr and black and white can be a great combo, but this isn't one that is working. Just remember that HDR is about contrast range, not just color tonemapping.

The bright white at the edge is distracting, there are strange markings in that corner and then the rest is very flat, muddy being a great word.

I can say only one thing; this image looks far better than its original image( you must be thinking how bad the original image was )

The sea at that time was literally muddy too due too rough climate

One reason why i'd use HDR on B&W would be to bring out the shadows and highlights. Its just a personal choice. But if you have a definitive subject it might be better to stick to a NON HDR. Again, no rules to photography as long as you can convey your message.
