WHat do people think about digital backgrounds? Is there a place in photography for them or is there place in the trash?

Here is an example.

To me they seem a bit on the cheesy side. They look too fabricated, not natural. To me I think it is a way that a photographer can compensate for a lack of setting up a shot properly.

Course I say that and I've seen some cool senior portraits with digital backgrounds worked well in PS.

Thoughts?

I just hate such backgrounds, both added in post and used in a studio. They are very tacky.

I agree with them being tacky, but like everything else, some people like them (typically not photographers). If you're a portrait photographer for clients, it might be worth doing, if your clients like that sort of thing. I know I wouldn't ever use them though. Of course, I don't make money from my photos.

This is the only digital background system that I liked. We had one in the studio when I worked in Trenton and was able to observe Joseph and Louise Simone use it at a seminar. We even bought the Simone slide collection.
