I seriously didn't think it was going to go that way, especially reading all the other--in my opinion--equally worthwhile options. What you and your wife have been doing is just so outstanding, and I feel really, truly honored and humbled to be the recipient of it for my son. As far as my contributions to TPF, I appreciate all the kind words from so many of you but I get WAY more from this community that what I give. I do try to do my part to provide ample comic relief, though.

But then I'd have to stop talking about my drinking habits and making comments that have just enough sexual innuendo as to make any son grossed out that his mother would say those things.

Actually, my youngest son RARELY even gets on the internet. He's a very frugal, environmentally-conscious sort, and he uses his spare time for gardening and art. Truly, he has probably spent less time on the internet all year than I spend in just a couple of days. He's kinda my "flower child."
My OTHER son is a Computer Science major and spends every waking moment on the computer...and judging by all the programs he had to turn in this semester, probably spent so not-so-very-awake moments on it too.

EDIT: I *do,* however, plan to take a picture of him with the camera equipment when he gets it, and then have him take a few pictures that I can share here.

the camera stuff was shipped out priority mail via USPS this morning. i will PM the tracking number.

The D100 arrived today!! Man, this is one sweet package! It was, of course, carefully packaged and in great condition--I downloaded a manual and checked out a few things so I could give my son a crash course in the basics of operating it.
Everything is in great condition! The camera, the grip, the lens, the flash, all of it--I am just astounded by how nice this equipment is.

The hard part was waiting for my son!! He's 20 and doesn't live here, so I wasn't even sure when I might see him to give him the camera. But then I devised a PLAN.
He works at a pizza place where you buy the pizza and then take it home and bake it yourself. I knew he had to work till closing today, so I asked him to stop by and bring me a pizza on his way home. I didn't tell him the camera had arrived.

He just came by...I should have done video instead of photos, to help convey how excited he was, but he was just SO excited about this camera. He LOVES it, and is now headed home to download the manual and start experimenting with it. We've scheduled some time together this Saturday to go somewhere and shoot together, which makes this kind of a bonus for me--he gets a DSLR, and *I* get time with HIM!! WooHoo! There is nothing in this world that makes THIS Mama any happier than time with her "kids."

Well, actually, MOST of that was in the box. The second lens (just behind the flash in the photo above) was actually an earlier donation to ME from pixmedic--it's a Tamron 28-300, and I'm now forwarding it on to my son as well.


And here is Happy Boy With Camera: (yes, it's a terrible picture, I'm tired, we were in a cramped space, and I've had a blender full of daquiris already... )
