After an effort to erase the title from my mind, I really love this shot. Textures and lines are wondeful. Something is strange in the upper hole...but I definitely like the shot.

Thanks Benjo. I didn't have a better title, but perhaps I'll think of one. I too like the out-of-focus background in the hole.

Love the scratches and textures ... I feel like the links provide a "tension" of sorts ... One thing I wonder about ... there seems to bee a line in the cavity above the bullet hole.

like the hole, fence, wall. what I cant figure out is how you came up with the framing or crop. I have a naturally tendency to try to balance things and probably would have tried to have even triangles on the edges of the frame where the fence leaves. And I don't see anything uniform or directly on a third line so that makes me wonder even more. so I am wondering what I might be missing compositionally that I don't see..

I see it! The top link, and the side link while not on the third line are pretty equidistant from their sides. I use this placement quite often as opposed to "rule" of thirds, right or not- I like it!

Thanks guys! Jazzie just about nailed it. Nothing was really lined up on this fence, which had seen better days, so I just cropped tightly on the elements that interested me.

Re the "rule", Arnheim identified points between the thirds points and the corners as having greater strength, measured by their impact on the viewer, so we should take both that and the "rule" with many grains of salt and do what works for us.
