I apreciate the critique and agree with your assesment
This was more of a snapshot than a composed image.
I had maybe 30 seconds to recognize a photo op, react, and take the pic.
I was just coming in from shooting some waterfowl pics in the marsh on our property when I spotted the deer and took the shot handheld from off a four wheeler.

The shot was at dusk facing northwest into fading light . All in all I got a better image than I thought I would.
