Title: Down the Log
turtle-6.jpg

Location & Date: The Brickworks, Toronto | May, 2014

Camera Set-Up: Nikon D800 w/ Nikon 70-200 at 200mm and 1.4 teleconverter

Shutter Speed: 1/1600

Aperture: 6.3

ISO: 800

Note:

One of the great urban conservation success stories is the reclamation of Toronto’s Brickworks. The old industrial site has been transformed into a hub for environmental advocacy and wetland revitalization. And though many benefit from the Brickworks, none more than the various turtles that call the area home, including this endangered midland painted turtle. When I began spending time in this urban oasis, I was struck by the incredible diversity of turtle species found at the brickworks – and the discrepancy in sizes, even within the same species. This turtle is tiny; smaller than my hand. But I love how this image makes the turtle look mightier than it actually is – as, I think, turtles are indeed mighty and mighty impressive.

Very nice photo and interesting information.
