Drew was a roommate of mine in Los Angeles until a couple of weeks ago. Where I live I feel like I'll never really be able to get used to the way that people come and go here. I become friends with these amazingly talented and wonderful people, and get the opportunity to live with them and collaborate with them, but eventually they move out. Hopefully one of these days soon I'll be moving out too, into my own apartment in Hollywood. In the meantime I am so grateful to be living with these artists, and being able to make friends so easily while I'm here. Moving to a new city can be a very lonely experience, but living in this collective has made it impossible to avoid making friends and connections while I'm here.

Shot on a Canon 5D, with Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens attached set to f/1.6, 1/200th sec, ISO 800. Shot in natural (window) lighting, against a canvas backdrop that I painted myself.

This is a lovely portrait. I had to study that DOF for a bit, but decided I like it.

Also - that backdrop is luscious! Love the way the light is falling on it here.

Thank you Terri! Usually I'm not a fan of portraits with a super thin depth of field, but sometimes it just works and it creates what I feel is a whimsical and nostalgic mood that enhances the overall image.

Also thank you for the compliment on the backdrop. It's the same one that I made last September (pictured here: 3 Time Beard Champion Portraits + My First Homemade Painted Canvas Backdrop **new photos added ), and I'm finding that it can be quite versatile with careful editing.
