I always took picture, wide 16:9, with my Canon Ixus 65 (SD630) and viewed them by LCD or Plasma as wide-screen.

Now I want to advance to DSLR level, with a Nikon D3100. But I am confused that; this camera doesn`t take pictures in 16:9 format.

What will be your advices on this point?

Us humans adapt to change pretty easily, I think you will be ok.

For the record I don't know of any DSLR's that shoot in 16:9.

I recend my last statement.. an extremely fast google search for "DSLR 16:9" revealed this

Sony Alpha 300 + 350...I was going to link to them, but I figured I would let you do some of the footwork.

My suggestion would be to take the photos in the standard dimensions and then crop to your liking. It's a lot easier than you think, and that way you'll be shooting closer to what you see through the viewfinder instead of chopping off the top and the bottom. It's kind of a lossy way to shoot photos.

All of the Sony Alpha series from the a-200 to the a-900 will shoot in 16:9 format, as well as the common 3:2 format. I'm not sure about the older a-100.
