Cable car tracks. Supposedly built in the 1800s by a banker who got tired of taking the long way home for lunch. They look sorta DIY, but they work.

Nice shots! Reminds me of the incline plane in Johnstown, PA. You could drive a car on it and be transported up or down the hill, but I think now its just a tourist attraction, but still pretty neat. Need to take a road trip there and get some pix, guess I should update my trip list.
