The other morning I saw six cormorants leisurely floating up river with the tide, on a piece of flotsam (or is it jetsam?). Slapping on the 100-400mm, I waited patiently until they came nearly up to the backyard, and snapped some shots. At what looked like a pre-arranged spot, they each jumped off the log to swim around, and a few seconds later I caught three of them taking off to fly back downriver.
