Walked this morning in an old city cemetery and if you visit an older cemetery you're going to see a lot of tree stump grave markers. At one point I passed three of them almost in a row so I grabbed a snap. Some folks may no longer know the history of most of those markers so here's the story. Back just before the turn of the century a fellow named Joseph Root founded a fraternal society with the goal of making life insurance affordable to everyone: Woodmen of the World. The bit of Latin above in the title is their motto. The life insurance policy they sold came with a WOW tree stump grave marker (see photo below). Fuji X-T2 w/18-55mm
P.S. The insurance company is still around but the grave marker feature was long ago discontinued: https://www.woodmenlife.org
