Dutch Tilt

The photograph had to be tilted because it wasn't a good photograph to begin with.

The extreme tilt is supposed to make the viewer think the photographer was hurriedly grabbing a momentous shot that in all likelihood would never be seen again in our lifetimes were it not for his impeccable timing and fortuitous camera settings.

Looks like pretty standard photojournalism fare to me. Not a bad photo at all. The time accomplishes a number of worthwhile things. The most important one is annoying the pedants on TPF of course.

I am highly pedantic, yes. I have yet to see a photo that employs this technique that looks professional or intended in any shape or form.

But that's different. There's no obvious horizon or "level" things that make it GLARINGLY clear that you used tilt. To me it just looks like a player moving their head sideways in the moment.

Now that you say it, that is what i subconsciously thought also.

Really for the article everyone is talking about. I mean they make snap judgments when it comes to these things. Sometimes when i am done in post, i'll come back to it two hours later and think to myself: "what the heck was i thinking when i made this edit?" Then i'll revise it again till i like it more. You just are rarely going to nail your post processing on the first try. First you have to become more objective about the edit you made.
