In 1868 Henry Shaw donated the land to St. Louis for Tower Grove park which Henry stipulated was to be maintained as an arboretum. There was a natural stream running through the east end of the park but in 1910 it was piped into the city's storm drains and removed -- mowed lawn then followed.
In 2017 the park management decided to bring the stream back and the large project was undertaken in 2022-23. I visited the finished project on my walk today and really enjoyed the transformation. They surrounded the stream with an ample native prairie and it really is delightful -- got a couple snaps at sunrise. Oly Pen E-PL9 w/14-42mm.
