Nice one Dean!!!

Thanks, Smoke. This one was really bluffing. It flattened it's head and was hissing very loudly. Supposedly they will play dead, but this one was more interested in intimidation, lol.

@Dean_Gretsch funny story on snakes, they don't bother me, as long as I know they're there, but don't surprise me. Few years ago I was mowing the centers in some of our pine woods. The tractor has a nice little pocket next to the arm rest that is a perfect fit for my fire radio, however the antenna sticks up enough that it will occasionally tickle the side of my arm. As I was working my way under a low pine limb, I felt something sliding up my arm. At first didn't pay any attention, thinking it was the antenna on my radio, but when the pressure became a little greater I finally glanced over to see the tail of a harmless Pine Snake dragging up my arm. The head and rest of the body was perched on the limb just about my eye level. In that instant that we locked eyes, my mind registered what was surely a gargantuan monster 30' long, and the fright mechanism kicked into overdrive. I couldn't jump, because the tractor was moving, leaving me only one thing to do------ I screamed like a little girly, girl, as the tail slid off my arm, and the tractor momentum carried me out of danger. I suspect my scream was probably heard up and down the 26 mile length of the valley, and to this day, I don't pull under low limbs without looking first!!!!!

I have had a few frightening encounters myself, some funny, some not so much. I actually only found this guy because I was walking Miss Daisy along a trail in a state forest here. She was ahead of me by 10-15 ft and walking along the grass line. All at once she jumped straight up in the air and a little backwards. I knew she'd either found a snake or stepped on a stick that made her think it was a snake.

Great shot, once it started hissing I’d be going the other way.

Do you mind me asking what lens you used.

[Dean_Gretsch]

Not at all. Sigma 170-500mm. This was at 425mm.

Thanks.

Here's a different view taken with a Lensbaby Velvet 56mm, cropped a bit more and on a different camera body also. I had to get quite a bit closer to get this one, lol.
