Effects/filters on these pictures

Hello everyone.

I was wondering what effect or filter is used on this picuters. I know that tastes are different but it just makes the photos look so cool.

It would be really nice if someone could answer this. First I tried changing colours in Gimp but that didn't work.

I think the photos are done with bare straight ahead flash.

Don't see any particular filter. Looks like a snapshot with a cellphone using the built in flash.
Overexposed up close and barely lighted further back so a weak flash.
