Epson Perfection V700 playing up

Not sure if this is the correct forum or not ...

I have been using this scanner for a long time with no problems. Today it is totally burning out, on transparencies only. Flatbed scanning is fine, but all transparencies, both positive and negative, are burned right out. At first today, there were a heap of vertical lines over the scan, then, after a restart, the burnout problem commenced and I have been unable to get it to stop.


Tried 2 different softwares on my PC: VueScan and SilverFast. Using Windows 64-bit. Turned scanner off and on at power point several times and re-tried. Then installed EpsonScan on my Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion. The identical problem occurred.

Since it occurs on both computers and 3 different softwares, I believe the problem is with the scanner itself. Would anyone know where to start looking ... Would it be scanner hardware, or software within the scanner itself? I have Googled the problem but haven't been able to find anyone with the exact same problem.
