EXIF question

Hi guys,

Just a quick question - can the EXIF data tell me whether or not a flashgun was used?
I'm confused because I have 2 similar images taken using the flashgun - 1 is warm toned and well exposed, the other is burnt out and overexposed.

On the warm toned, well exposed shot it says of the flash "On, Return detected", on the overexposed shot it says "No flash". Gah!

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

If its an external flash it may show up as no flash

internal flash shows as having fired or not, but external (to my knowledge) doesnt show

Just checked 2 images from 2 different shoots I took that I know I used a flash and it shows as having fired

Flash On, Fired

This is with a Canon 7D and Canon 430EX II

Aye it'll usually show if the flash is *on* camera, but wireless and whatnot no. I use my 430EX II wirelessly quite a bit and it doesn't show in the EXIF.
